The New Year will usher in an exciting moment in Seattle sports history—the Jan. 1, 2009, return to KeyArena by the Redhawks. When the men's basketball team plays Loyola Marymount it will mark not only SU's return to Division I basketball but also a return to the Key after a 29-year absence. Be there when history is made.

Living the Mission
The world really has come to Seattle University. On Nov. 18, SU hosted the Opus Prize, one of the world's largest faith-based humanitarian awards. The 2008 recipients—Maggie Barankitse of Burundi, Africa, who received the $1 million Opus award, Michael Woodard of Nicaragua and Krishnammal Jagannathan of India—are truly inspiring. Each shared their profound stories at a press conference, a sold-out celebration at Benaroya Hall and on campus during Mission Day.

World As Our Classroom
Seattle University's Education Abroad is among the top programs of its kind in the nation, according to the latest Open Doors report by the Institute of International Education. In the report, SU made three of the lists for "Top 40 Institutions," ranking 14th for number of students studying abroad in the Masters Carnegie category and 13th for short-term abroad programs. SU made the top 40 for overall participation by undergraduates.

Albers's New Look
The Albers School of Business and Economics has launched its new website where students, alumni and the greater community can access a wealth of information on the business school. The site features a new look that is more reflective of the Albers mission and culture, and provides navigation that is more intuitive for visitors.
Pioneering Women
Jackie Thomas, '08, (pictured right) shares a laugh with Leilani Balais, assistant director of Alumni Relations, at the first Women's Athletic Luncheon on Nov. 15. Thomas, a women's basketball standout and all-time steals leader, joined female members of SU's Athletic Hall of Fame and an enthusiastic crowd of supporters to cheer on the move to Division I. Hall of Famers in attendance were Pat Lesser Harbottle, '55, Janet Hopps Adkisson, '56, Sue Turina Bangasser, '81, Sue Stimac Verduin, '83, and Julie Holmes Woodward, '92.
